2024-25 FA Cup: Fourth Round – Plymouth vs Liverpool

Plymouth Argyle host Liverpool at Home Park in a blockbuster Fourth Round tie in 2024-25 FA Cup.

Victory will see Plymouth reach the Fifth Round for the first time since their run to the Quarter-Finals in 2006-07 season, whilst Liverpool look to move past this stage for the third time in four seasons.

Team News

Plymouth have no fresh injury concerns to report following their shock 2-1 Championship win over West Brom last weekend.

Kornel Szucs (muscle), Brendan Galloway (hip) and Joe Edwards (hamstring) remain ruled out.

Liverpool could welcome Joe Gomez back from a hamstring injury, which had sidelined the defender in recent weeks.

Trent Alexander-Arnold remains absent with a thigh injury.

When is Kick-Off?

Plymouth host Liverpool at Home Park on Sunday 9 February at 3pm GMT, live on ITV1 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Plymouth lost their only previous FA Cup tie against Liverpool (L1), having drawn 0-0 at Anfield in January 2017 before they lost the replay 1-0 at Home Park.
  • Liverpool drew 0-0 in their only previous FA Cup visit to Plymouth in January 2017.
  • Plymouth are yet to score against Liverpool in cup competitions.
  • Plymouth have won one of their last six FA Cup matches against Premier League opposition (W1, D1, L4).
  • Liverpool have won each of their last seven FA Cup ties against lower league opposition (W7).

Prediction

Although their priority is currently on securing Championship survival, Plymouth know that this is a free hit and can approach this with confidence after a comeback win over West Brom but a resilient defence is needed if want to keep the Reds quiet.

Arne Slot though will certainly ring the changes here for Liverpool with a league trip to Everton in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday in his mind, but Liverpool do have the depth and quality to avoid a cupset if they turn up and play with a similar intensity as saw in their Carabao Cup demolition of Tottenham just days earlier.

In fact if they do that then this will be an one-sided outcome.

Prediction: Plymouth 0-3 Liverpool

Result: Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
