2024-25 Sky Bet Championship: Week 21 Roundup

Roundup of latest Championship action which saw two managers depart. 

Gustavo Hamer’s strike and Kieffer Moore’s penalty ensured Sheffield United stayed top with a 2-0 home win over second-bottom Plymouth Argyle.

Leeds slipped three points behind in second after Jack Whatmough’s injury-time own-goal rescued them a 1-1 draw at Preston, after Brad Potts had put Lilywhites into a first-half lead.

Second-half goals from Zian Flemming and Josh Brownhill saw third-placed Burnley come from behind to win 2-1 at Norwich, having fell behind to Jose Cordoba’s second-minute effort.

Jobe Bellingham netted a 75th minute winner for Sunderland as the fourth-placed Mackems fought back to win 3-2 at Swansea, in which Dan Ballard and Dan Neil cancelled out early goals from Zan Vipotnik and Liam Cullen.

First-half goals from Amario Cozier-Duberry and Owen Beck proved enough for Blackburn to stay fifth with a 2-0 home win over Luton, although the visitors finished a man down following Liam Walsh’s red card for fouling Yuki Ohashi.

Emmanuel Latte Lath’s tenth-minute winner saw Middlesbrough round out the top six with victory over Millwall, as the visiting Lions suffered a disappointing end to Neil Harris’ reign.

Down in the relegation zone, Hull remained at the foot of the table following a 2-1 loss at Coventry, having led through Joao Pedro before Ephron Mason-Clark and Jack Rudoni completed the Sky Blues’ comeback.

Anwar El Ghazi’s effort and Ben Gibson’s own-goal saw Cardiff claim a 2-2 draw at Stoke, having fallen behind to Andrew Moran’s opener before Gibson’s late effort salvaged a draw for the Potters.

Portsmouth consequently slipped into the bottom three following a 4-0 loss at Derby, with Kane Wilson, Eiran Cashin and Ebou Adams on the scoresheet before Marlon Pack’s own-goal sealed the victory for Paul Warne’s Rams.

Elsewhere, Watford sat outside the top six on goal difference with a 2-1 home win over West Brom, as Vakoun Bayo struck twice prior to Jayson Molumby’s consolatory goal for the Baggies.

Oxford United fired Des Buckingham following a 3-1 home loss to Sheffield Wednesday, having led through Greg Leigh before Josh Windass, Jamal Lowe and Djeidi Gassama completed the Owls’ comeback.

Scott Twine and Paul Smyth both found the net as Bristol City and QPR played out a 1-1 draw.
