Roundup of a huge matchweek in the Championship’s promotion race.

Tom Davies’ 83rd minute strike sent Sheffield United top with a 1-0 home win over fourth-placed Sunderland, although both clubs finished a man down following first-half red cards for Harry Souttar and Chris Mepham.

Second-half goals from Jay Rodriguez and Josh Brownhill saw Burnley climb to second with a 2-0 win at Stoke.

Todd Cantwell’s first-half penalty saw Blackburn scrape a home win over Leeds, which saw Daniel Farke’s visiting Whites slip to third.

Middlesbrough climbed to fifth through Tommy Conway’s brace and Finn Azaz’s opener in a 3-1 home win over third-bottom Hull, as Mason Burstow netted his first goal for the defeated Tigers.

Watford rounded out the top six with a goalless draw at home to second-bottom QPR.

West Brom are the closest team outside of the play-off spots in seventh following a 1-1 draw at Preston, having led through Karlan Grant only for Emil Riis Jakobsen to equalise for the hosts.

Down in the relegation zone, Portsmouth remain bottom after Matt Ritchie and Josh Murphy’s goals were cancelled out by Connor Ogilvie’s own-goal and Liam Cullen’s strike in a 2-2 draw at Swansea.

Plymouth remain two points above the drop following a 4-0 loss at Bristol City, as Anis Mehmeti struck twice for the Robins whilst Scott Twine and Sinclair Armstrong also netted.

Cardiff too sat two points above the bottom three after Yakou Meite and Alex Robertson twice put them in front in a 2-2 draw at Coventry, despite Ephron Mason-Clark and Victor Torp’s equalisers in the Sky Blues first game under Frank Lampard.

Elsewhere, Ante Crnac’s brace plus goals from Emiliano Marcondes and Borja Sainz fired Norwich to a comeback 4-2 win over Luton, with the Hatters having led through Elijah Adebayo before Jacob Brown made it 2-2.

Tyler Goodrham’s strike rescued Oxford United a 1-1 draw at home to Millwall, with the Lions having led through Japhet Tanganga’s header.

Finally, Barry Bannan and Jamal Lowe fired Sheffield Wednesday to a 2-1 comeback win at Derby, after Ebou Adams had put the Rams into a half-time lead with his ninth-minute strike.
