Leicester City have appointed Ruud Van Nistelrooy as manager until June 2027.
Van Nistelrooy’s appointment comes just two weeks after he left Manchester United following Ruben Amorim’s arrival, having gone unbeaten in his three matches as interim boss following Erik Ten Hag’s sacking last month.
Coincidentally his two wins in those three games came at home to Leicester; as the Red Devils won 5-2 in the Carabao Cup Fourth Round, followed by a 3-0 win in the Premier League just before the international break.
Van Nistelrooy is replacing Steve Cooper who was sacked on Sunday (24 November), with the Foxes sat 16th in the top-flight and one point above the relegation zone.
Speaking to lcfc.com about his new role, Van Nistelrooy was overjoyed to take up the job.
“I’m proud, I’m excited. Everybody that I speak to about Leicester City Football Club is enthusiastic. They have great stories about the quality of the people working at the Club, the supporters and, of course, the recent history of the Club is impressive.
“I’m excited to start and to get to know everyone and give everything I can for the Football Club.”
Chairman, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha added that it is a “pleasure” to appoint Van Nistelrooy as manager on a two-and-a-half year contract, confident that he can bring success and survival to the club.
“Ruud’s experience, knowledge, and winning mentality will undoubtedly bring great value to us, and we look forward to supporting him in achieving success for our fans and our Club.”
Van Nistelrooy’s first match in charge of the Foxes will come at home against West Ham on Tuesday 3 December, live on Amazon Prime from 8:15pm GMT.
