Roundup of the latest action across September in the 2024-25 League Two season.

Gillingham began the month sat top but an action-packed month saw the lead change hands every week, which the early strugglers who could be in the relegation mix began to emerge.

 

Week Five

Billy Sharp’s close-range strike saw Doncaster Rovers displace Gillingham at the top of the table with a 1-0 win, which dropped the Gills to fourth.

David McGoldrick’s brace lifted Notts County into second with a 2-0 win over second-bottom Accrington Stanley.

Barrow climbed to third after Gerard Garner’s opener was cancelled out by Danny Butterworth’s injury-time equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Swindon, as both teams finished a man down after red cards for Paul Farman and Harry Smith.

Andy Cook’s brace lifted Bradford up to fifth with a 2-1 win over Carlisle United, despite Harrison Neal’s equaliser.

Callum Hendry’s tap-in winner saw MK Dons scrape a 1-0 home win over sixth-placed Walsall.

AFC Wimbledon rounded out the top seven despite their trip to Tranmere being postponed, due to various international call-ups.

Elsewhere, Newport County suffered a 4-1 loss at home to Port Vale as Jayden Stockley struck twice for the Valiants, whilst the Exiles finished with nine men following red cards for Ciaran Brennan and Kyle Jameson.

Kane Hemmings’ penalty saw Crewe Alexandra edge past Morecambe at Gresty Road.

Tom Bradbury’ 92nd minute header snatched a dramatic win for Cheltenham at home to Harrogate.

First-half goals from James Berry and Dilian Markanday saw Chesterfield beat Grimsby 2-1, despite the Spirites’ Darren Oldaker being red carded in the 67th minute for a second bookable offence.

Michael Cheek’s penalty was cancelled out by Owura Edwards as Colchester fought back to draw 1-1 against Bromley, as the visitors finished a man down after Besart Topalloj’s dismissal for a second foul.

 

Week Six

Jodi Jones’ brace plus goals from Dan Crowley and Alassana Jatta saw Notts County go top with a 4-2 comeback win at Bromley, who initially led through Cheek and Ben Thompson.

Armani Little’s strike plus Jayden Clarke’s brace saw Gillingham beat Tranmere 3-0 to go second.

First-half goals from Sam Foley and Theo Vassell handed Barrow a 2-1 win away at Grimsby, despite Kieran Green’s consolatory header for the hosts.

Danny Johnson’s 88th minute headed winner saw Walsall climb to fourth with a 2-1 win over seventh-placed Bradford, as Taylor Allen’s penalty was cancelled out by Olly Sanderson’s equaliser.

Myles Hippolyte’s strike and Callum Maycock’s brace saw AFC Wimbledon thrash MK Dons 3-0 at home to go fifth.

Doncaster dropped to sixth following a 2-0 loss at Harrogate through Ellis Taylor’s header and Josh March’s effort.

Down in the relegation zone, Morecambe got their first point of the season with a 3-3 draw at home to Colchester, in which they came from 3-1 down to snatch a point despite a red card for Luke Hendrie.

Zac Williams’ 85th minute winner saw Crewe win at second-bottom Accrington Stanley in a tight contest.

Charlie Wyke’s brace couldn’t prevent Carlisle losing 3-2 at home to Fleetwood, which kept the Cumbrian side one point above the bottom two.

Elsewhere, Swindon thrashed Newport County 4-0 through goals from Kabongo Tshimanga, Paul Glatzel and Joel Cotterill, although their third goal came from Matt Baker’s own-goal.

Ethan Chislett’s 11th minute winner saw Port Vale scrape a home win over Chesterfield.

Hakeeb Adelakun’s brace saw Salford come from behind to beat Cheltenham 2-1 after Ethon Archer had opened the scoring.

 

Week Seven

Elliot Newby’s effort and Vassell’s header saw Barrow go top with a 2-0 win over Newport.

Elliott Nevitt’s 38th minute strike saw Gillingham scrape a 1-0 victory at Notts County to go second, whilst County slipped to fourth.

Quick-fire goals from Nathan Lowe and Charlie Lakin saw Walsall win 2-0 at Salford and climbed to third.

AFC Wimbledon stayed fifth with a goalless draw at Bradford City.

Tom Anderson cancelled out Ellis Harrison’s close-range goal as sixth-placed Doncaster snatched a point at MK Dons, despite Harry Clifton’s red card whilst Harrison was sent off for the hosts.

Crewe took advantage of Bradford’s draw to climb to seventh with a 3-0 win at home to Harrogate, with Hemmings having scored twice and Jack Lankester also on the scoresheet.

Down in the relegation zone, Yann Songo’o and Hallam Hope rescued rock-bottom Morecambe a 2-2 draw at Fleetwood, after Ryan Graydon and Ronan Coughlan had put the Cod Army on course for victory at Highbury.

Late goals from Stockley and Antwoine Hackford rescued Port Vale a 2-2 draw at second-bottom Accrington, who had led 2-0 at half-time through Shaun Walley and Donald Love.

Goals from Sam Lavelle and Luke Armstrong moved Carlisle three points clear of the drop.

Elsewhere, Arkell Jude-Boyd rescued Cheltenham a 1-1 draw at Chesterfield after Markanday had put the Spirites ahead.

Lyle Taylor’s brace and Samson Tovide’s clinical effort saw Colchester take a 3-0 home win over Tranmere.

Bromley’s winless run was extended with a 1-0 loss at Grimsby through Danny Rose’s penalty, despite the hosts finishing with ten men after Kieran Green’s red card.

 

Week Eight

Clarke and Robbie McKenzie fired Gillingham to the month-ending top with a 2-0 home win over Barrow, as the visitors fell to third.

Jack Earing’s brace plus goals from Jamie Jellis and Albert Adomah saw Walsall beat Colchester 4-0 to go second.

Matty Platt’s close-range equaliser rescued fourth-placed Notts County a 1-1 draw at Morecambe, as the Shrimps moved off the foot of the table having initially led through Lee Angol amidst Kayden Harrack’s red card.

George Byers and Brandon Cover’s second-half goals saw Port Vale beat Swindon 2-1 at home to go fifth.

Accrington slipped to bottom of the table after their trip to sixth-placed AFC Wimbledon was postponed, due to flooding at Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Doncaster rounded out the top seven despite Luke Molyneux and Anderson’s red cards in a 3-0 home loss to Chesterfield, as Chey Dunkley, Paddy Madden and Berry found the net for the visitors.

Elsewhere, Stephen Dooley and Taylor fired Harrogate to a 2-1 home win over Yorkshire rivals, Bradford, despite Cook’s consolatory goal for the Bantams.

Baker headed in a 74th minute winner as Newport beat Crewe 2-1 after Cameron Evans’ opener was cancelled out by Adrien Thibaut’s sliding equaliser on a counter-attack.

Late goals from Lewis Cass and Harvey Rodgers completed Grimsby’s comeback 3-2 win at Carlisle, having initially been 2-1 down after Lavelle and Dominic Sadi put the hosts ahead either side of Luca Barrington’s equaliser.

Matty Virtue’s brace saw Fleetwood record a comfortable 2-0 away win at Cheltenham.

Cheek’s 23rd minute strike saw Bromley snatch a 1-1 draw at home to MK Dons, with the visitors having initially led through Joe Tomlinson’s tap-in effort.

Tranmere held Salford to a goalless draw at Prenton Park in a dull contest.
