Uruguay midfielder, Manuel Ugarte has joined Manchester United from PSG for £50.8m.
Ugarte had been the subject of speculation throughout this window with Man Utd considered his preferred destination, despite lengthy negotiations between the Red Devils and PSG.
Utd eventually agreed a total fee of £50.8m with PSG for Ugarte, consisting of a £42.3m initial fee plus £8.5m in add-ons.
The 23 year-old has signed a five-year contract until June 2029 with option for a further year which would see him stay until June 2030 if activated by player or club.
Addressing his decision to move to Utd, Ugarte spoke of his pride at the Red Devils’ ambitions and has vowed to help them fight for silverware.
“It is an incredible feeling to join a club of this magnitude; one that is admired all around the world.
The project that the football leadership discussed with me is extremely exciting; Manchester United is an ambitious club and I am an ambitious player.
“The passion of supporters is something that is very important to me; I know how incredible United fans are and I cannot wait to experience Old Trafford.
“I’m someone who is so determined to succeed; I will sacrifice and give everything for my teammates. Together we will fight to win trophies and reach the level where this club needs to be.”
Ugarte began his career at his local team, City Park, before he joined Fenix where he graduated through their academy and scored two goals in 57 senior appearances.
He then moved to Portugal’s Famalicao in late December 2020 and managed one goal in 21 appearances, before he was signed by Sporting Lisbon just 223 days later and helped them to 2021-22 Taca da Liga title.
During his two seasons with Sporting, Ugarte produced one goal and one assist in 85 appearances.
Ugarte then moved to PSG last summer, where he only managed two assists in 37 appearances but was part of their Ligue 1 title-winning squad, whilst he also contributed to their Coupe de France and Trophee des Champions titles.
At international level, Ugarte represents Uruguay and has earned 22 senior caps since his debut in September 2021, which came as a substitute in a 4-2 victory over Bolivia.
