Ipswich Town have signed forward, Chiedozie Ogbene from Luton for £8m.

Ogbene’s move comes after 13 months at Luton in which he scored five goals and contributed one assist in 39 appearances, despite the Hatters’ relegation from the Premier League on the final day of last season.

Ipswich paid Luton a £8m fee for Ogbene who has signed a four-year contract until June 2028, and will wear the number 21 shirt.

“I’m very excited and feel lucky to have this opportunity to play in the Premier League again,” commented Chiedozie to TownTV as he spoke of his confidence in playing top-flight football again.

“I’ve had very positive chats with the manager and for someone to believe in me that I could play at this level again means a lot to me and my family.

“I know what he wants from me and the role I will play and I’m here to be a positive addition to the squad as we look to achieve our goals.

“It’s an opportunity I had to grab with both hands and I can’t wait to be involved as soon as possible.”

Ogbene began his career at Tranmore Athletic and went on to play for College Corinthians, Kilreen Celtic and Everton at youth level, before he made his senior debut with Cork City.

He spent 2017 season at Limerick in which he scored eight goals in 32 appearances, followed by a two-season spell at Brentford – during which he went on loan to Exeter City.

August 2019 saw him move to Rotherham where he scored 14 goals in 136 appearances, as the Millers twice won promotion to Championship but were relegated twice back to League One.

Ogbene has four goals in 20 senior caps for Republic of Ireland since his debut against Hungary in June 2021.
