Brentford Head Coach, Thomas Frank has welcomed a “positive” 1-1 friendly draw against Watford at Vicarage Road.

Kevin Schade headed the Bees ahead after just six minutes but Moussa Sissoko equalised for the Hornets just two minutes later.

“Overall, it was positive, in terms of the performance,” commented Frank on his players’ effort in their penultimate pre-season friendly, as he reflected on the improvement after a lacklustre 3-1 loss to Estrela da Amadora last time out.

“I was not happy with the performance against Estrela da Amadora, I thought we were really poor. But today I was much more pleased with the performance.

“I thought we created four or five good opportunities and big chances – and that’s a lot in a game. Of course, we’d like the players to take them and put them in the back of the net. But the big thing is creating those chances.

“I thought we controlled the game more in phases and I felt we gave little away; their goal came from a mistake and that happens.”

Brentford were without Vitaly Janelt, Mads Roerslev and Ethan Pinnock due to minor injuries, whilst Josh Dasilva, Aaron Hickey and Rico Henry continue to be sidelined with injury.

New signing, Igor Thiago meanwhile is ruled out for the first half of season with a knee meniscus injury.

Frank though wasn’t worried about the former trio’s absence as he explained: “It’s minor, minor issues with all three.

“It’s a combination of pushing people, but also making sure we have a full squad available for the first game of the season.

“I am very confident that all three of them will play against Wolfsburg next week and all three of them will be available for the first game of the season.”

Frank however quipped that he would of fielded Janelt, Roerslev and Pinnock in the event of a showpiece match, as he joked: “If it was a World Cup final, all three of them would have played today.”

The Dane also provided an update on Hickey and Henry as he continued: “Both of them are progressing very well, but both of them could be tight to be involved in the first game of the season.”

With a friendly at home to Wolfsburg to come on Friday 9 August ahead of their Premier League season-opener on Sunday 18 August, Frank felt that he was happy with the team’s progress heading into the season

“Overall, it was positive vibes.”
