West Ham have signed winger, Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United.
Summerville’s move comes after he produced 21 goals and 10 assists for Leeds in the Championship last season, although Daniel Farke’s Whites failed to secure instant promotion back to the Premier League.
West Ham consequently decided to move for the 22 year-old Dutchman and after weeks of negotiations, the Hammers have paid £24.5m plus add-ons. for Summerville who has signed a five-year contract until June 2029 with an option for a further year.
Speaking to whufc.com about his move to East London and return to the top-flight, a “very happy” Summerville commented: “It’s the perfect next step for my career. West Ham United is a huge Club, with lots of ambition and great players, so I’m really excited to be here and to get going.
“I always try to follow my heart, and I had the feeling that this is the best place for me to continue developing as a player, and to push my potential as much as possible.”
Summerville added that the club’s European performance in recent seasons helped attract him, as did new boss – Julen Lopetegui.
“There is so much history here, and the team have done so well in the Premier League and in Europe over recent years. I spoke to the Head Coach, and he convinced me that I could make an impact, and help achieve success in the new season.
“I think I’m here to help write more history here, and I’d love to help West Ham get back into Europe. I want to contribute lots of goals and assists, and I’m so excited to meet my teammates and the fans, and get out there now.”
West Ham’s Technical Director, Tim Steidten is “delighted” that Summerville “… will enhance our existing depth in the attacking third.
“He is an exciting player with blistering pace, agile movement and an abundance of creativity off the wing.
“He has already proved himself in English football, having been a key player for Leeds United in both the Premier League and Championship over the last few years.”
Summerville began his career at Feyenoord where he graduated through their academy but failed to make a single senior appearance, amidst loan spells at FC Dordrecht and ADO Den Haag.
He eventually joined Leeds in September 2020 and failed to score nine appearances in his first two seasons, but went on to net 25 goals in 80 appearances across the last two seasons combined.
Summerville has represented Netherland at international level from Under-16 to Under-21s, but is yet to make a senior appearance.
