Leyton Orient have signed goalkeeper, Zach Hemming on a season-long loan from Middlesbrough for 2024-25 season.
Hemming graduated through Middlesbrough’s academy and spent the early part of his career on loan to Darlington, Hartlepool United and Blyth Spartans.
He then spent two seasons on loan at Kilmarnock with whom he claimed promotion to Scottish Premiership in 2021-22 season, and most recently enjoyed a productive loan at St Mirren in which he made 46 appearances.
Boro however have decided to introduce Hemming into the EFL this season, with the 24 year-old joining Orient for the new season as he looks to continue his development but this time in southern England rather than Scotland.
“I’m really pleased to sign for the club and can’t wait to start contributing to the team as much as I can.”
“I really enjoyed my time in Scotland and now I want to come down here and show what I can do.”
Hemming is following in the footsteps of his fellow goalkeeper and Boro teammate, Sol Brynn who spent last season on loan at Orient, with Brynn having “… had so many good things to say about the place.
“You can tell there is a really good group of lads at the club.”
Hemming also spoke with Brynn about Orient’s Goalkeeping Coach, Simon Royce. with positive feedback on his work with Brynn last season which has left him “really excited to get going now.”
Royce added that he had monitored Hemming following a mention of his name last season and is pleased to add him to the squad.
“Zach was mentioned to me last season when we had Sol here and I’ve kept a close eye on him since.
“He had a really good season last year at St Mirren, and also had a good spell at Kilmarnock before that. He’s 24 years-old and is a really good prospect. We’re delighted to get his signing over the line.”
Orient manager, Richie Wellens is “delighted” to welcome Hemming to the club and is confident that he can continue his progress, whilst seeking similar impact to what Brynn produced last season.
“Zach has had some really good loan spells away from Middlesbrough already and has gained plenty of plaudits in recent years.
“He’s very highly thought of and we are confident that he can come in and have the same sort of impact that Sol Brynn had for us last season. We’re excited to see what he can achieve during his time with us.”
