BBC have unveiled their coverage plans for UEFA Euro 2024 across TV and Radio.
As traditional, Gary Lineker will lead BBC’s TV coverage with Gabby Logan, Mark Chapman and Alex Scott hosting coverage of selected fixtures across the tournament, with coverage coming from a Berlin-based studio from which Scott will also host highlights.
Alan Shearer and Frank Lampard will head up BBC’s punditry line-up which includes; Cesc Fabregas, Micah Richards, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Williams, Ellen White, Rachel Corsie and James McFadden.
Joe Hart and Wayne Rooney will make their BBC punditry debuts whilst Brentford Head Coach, Thomas Frank will offer his managerial perspectives alongside ex West Ham boss – David Moyes.
Shearer, McFadden, Danny Murphy, Martin Keown and Jermaine Jenas will serve as co-commentators on various matches across the tournament.
Kelly Somers will be England’s roving reporter whilst Eilidh Barbour will provide reports from within Scotland’s camp.
Guy Mowbray will head up the lead commentator role alongside; Robyn Cowen, Vicki Sparks, Steve Wilson, Steve Bower and Jonathan Pearce.
As part of the build-up to the tournament, BBC will premier a documentary about Rooney – ‘Rooney 2004: World At His Feet’, which covers his first major tournament debut at Euro 2004, with the programme available on iPlayer on 1 June.
There will be a terrestrial airing on Saturday 15 June following BBC’s coverage of reigning champions – Italy as they start their title defence against Albania at 8pm BST that evening.
Chapman will lead BBC Radio’s coverage alongside Kelly Cates and Steve Crossman with match commentaries airing on BBC 5Live and BBC Sounds.
Sparks will also provide radio commentary on selected matches alongside her TV commentary commitments, with John Murray, Ian Dennis and Alistair Bruce-Ball also providing radio commentary throughout the tournament.
Leicester defender, Conor Coady who was part of England squad at last two major tournaments headlines the co-commentator selection, which includes various ex international players; Chris Sutton, Matthew Upson, Pat Nevin, Izzy Christiansen and Dion Dublin all on co-commentary.
Theo Walcott, Clinton Morrison, Paul Robinson, Jen Beattie, Robert Huth, Stephen Warnock and Mario Melchiot will also feature on radio co-commentary, with 2016 Euro winner, Jose Fonte who was part of the victorious Portugal team at that tournament.
Scotland will receive their own highlights programmes on days when Scotland are in action with Jonathan Sutherland hosting, whilst Neil McCann will provide analysis.
BBC Radio Scotland’s Sportsound will provide commentary of all three group matches with Liam McLeod at the helm, with Steven Thompson and Leanne Crichton joining him in the commentary box for the opening match against Germany.
McLeod will also be behind the microphone for Scotland’s games against Switzerland and Hungary with McCann as co-commentator, live on BBC One Scotland, whilst Alasdair Lamont leads BBC Radio Scotland Sportsound commentary with Thompson and Crichton for both matches.
Interim Director of BBC Sport, Philip Bernie has described confirmation of their Euro 2024 coverage as the start of “an incredibly exciting summer of sport”, which includes Queens, Wimbledon and Olympics amongst various events.
