Steve Clarke has named a 28-man preliminary Scotland squad for UEFA Euro 2024.
Doak has been handed a surprise call-up despite having suffered a lengthy knee injury in December in Liverpool Unders-21s’ PL2 match against Chelsea, which kept him out of action until recent weeks.
James Forrest is also included in the forward selection after his resurgent form for Celtic with seven goals in 27 appearances, despite having not been called up for the Tartan Army since 2021.
Ryan Jack and Callum McGregor have earned recalls as Bologna’s Lewis Ferguson is the only player dropped from the squad selected for March’s friendly losses to Netherlands and Northern Ireland.
Nathan Patterson is the only absentee in the defence due to injury as everyone else retained their places in the squad, including Leeds’ Liam Cooper and Watford’s Ryan Porteous amongst others.
Clarke has named an unchanged goalkeeping selection with Zander Clark, Liam Kelly, Craig Gordon and Angus Gunn all named in the squad, although one of the quartet is likely to miss out on a place in the 26-man final squad alongside an outfield player.
Scotland will visit Gibraltar on Monday 3 June in a warm-up friendly at 5pm UK Time, followed by a home clash against Finland at Hampden Park, Glasgow, in a 7:45pm BST kick-off on Friday 7 June – just hours before Clarke must submit his final squad selection by 23:59pm on that date.
Clarke’s Tartan Army will then meet Euro 2024 hosts, Germany in Munich in the tournament’s opening match on Friday 14 June at 9pm CEST (8pm UK Time), live on ITV1 in the UK.
Scotland will then face Switzerland in Cologne in their second Group A match on Wednesday 19 June, before meeting Hungary on Sunday 23 June in Stuttgart, with both matches commencing at 9pm CEST and live on BBC1 in the UK.
