Brentford have announced that Shandon Baptiste, Saman Ghoddos and Charlie Goode will leave upon expiry of their contracts on 30 June 2024.
Baptiste has scored two goals in 78 appearances across all competitions since he joined in January 2020 – of which both goals came in 55 Premier League appearances for the Bees.
Brentford’s Director of Football, Phil Giles explained that the club had target promotion with Baptiste when they signed him from Oxford United, of which they “achieved” in May 2021 and Giles praised the midfielder for his involvement in “significant moments” in the top flight.
Giles however admitted that game time is purely behind their decision to part ways at the end of this season.
“In truth, I’m sure Shandon would want to be involved on the pitch more than he has been, which is why we feel it’s the right time to let him become a regular and key player at another club.”
Ghoddos meanwhile has scored five goals in 107 appearances during a four-year stint in West London and signed a new one-year contract last summer, having initially announced his departure in May 2023.
“Saman is one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met in football, he’s always positive and makes a fantastic contribution at training and around the squad every day,” commented Giles.
“It was an easy decision to bring him back last summer and he has completely justified that decision.”
Giles hinted that another return is a future possibility as he quipped: “He will always be welcome at the club and of course we shouldn’t rule out him coming back again sometime in the future.”
Charlie Goode meanwhile joined the Bees in August 2020 but suffered a series of injuries during his time at the club, amidst loan spells at Sheffield United, Blackpool and Wigan.
Gilles simply described Goode’s time at Brentford as “incredibly unlucky” with just 20 appearances in total, but offered positive thoughts on the defender’s contributions.
“That said, whenever he played, I always thought he did very well and contributed to some important results, especially during our first season in the Premier League.”
Loanees, Neal Maupay and Sergio Reguilon will return to Everton and Tottenham respectively.
