Brentford have confirmed that midfielder, Saman Ghoddos will leave the club at the end of 2022-23 season.

Ghoddos initially joined the Bees on a season-long loan from French club, Amiens in September, which led him to sign a two-year contract just four months later in January 2021 in a campaign which saw him help Brentford clinch promotion to the Premier League via Championship Play-Offs.

The Iran international has since made 30 Premier League appearances for the Bees during which he scored just one goal, which came in a 3-1 league loss at Burnley in October 2021 as the Bees spent the entirety of their first Premier League campaign inside the top 15.

“Saman has been a pleasure to work with,” commented Head Coach, Thomas Frank who described Ghoddos as “a valuable member of the squad” across their first two seasons in the Premier League, having previously scored three league goals and provided two assists in their promotion-winning season.

Frank proceeded to praise Ghoddos for his professionalism despite not experiencing much playing time in the top-flight, as he continued: “Whenever he has been called upon, and wherever he has been asked to play, Saman has never let us down. He is a top professional and a top person.”

Addressing the decision to release Ghoddos at the conclusion of this season, Frank explained: “At this stage of his career, it’s so important that Saman has regular game time.

“We cannot offer Saman the minutes that he desires, so it is with sadness that we have all decided that he should have the chance to pursue new opportunities as a free agent.

“I wish Saman the best of luck for the future and thank him for his efforts during his time with us.”

Brentford’s Director of Football, Phil Giles added that Ghoddos’ impact is untold despite his lack of game time, as he added: “But what isn’t seen from outside our training ground is the massive impact he has made during training and around the team, even when he wasn’t starting.

“He’ll be a big miss and everyone at Brentford wishes him well in the next phase of his career.”

Across his three seasons in West London, Ghoddos has scored five goals in 86 appearances for the Bees plus made 12 of his 34 international appearances for Iran whilst representing Brentford at club level.

Ghoddos is available for Brentford’s final three games of the season in which they host West Ham today (14 May) at 2pm BST before the Bees head to Tottenham on 20 May (12:30pm) ahead of their final game at home to Manchester City on Sunday 28 May (4:30pm).
