PREMA have confirmed their move into IndyCar from 2025 season onwards.

PREMA currently competes in seven different junior racing categories including F2, F3 and F1 Academy, with a wide range of young talent from Oliver Bearman to Arvid Lindblad and Maya Weug.

2025 though will see the iconic Italian outfit expand its single-seater racing after securing a move into IndyCar, in partnership with Chevrolet which will also see PREMA race in the Indy 500 for the first time in their history.

Addressing their decision to head to North America, Team Principal, Rene Rosin described it as a “pivotal moment” for the team, having long held “tremendous respect for INDYCAR, its unique challenges and sensational history, and we look forward to being part of it.”

Rosin also iterated that IndyCar “will not be easy,” but is “determined that the team can adapt and quickly fight for success.

“The desire to fight for victory is our driving force, and the thoroughness of the challenge will give us even more motivation to succeed.”

PREMA also iterated that they have a ‘goal of establishing itself among the major players’ within IndyCar and as a statement of intent, they will operate a factory in Indiana, with Chevrolet supplying the 2.2-litre twin turbocharged V6 hybrid power units to the team.

Although the driver line-up will be announced in due course, it is thought that PREMA could turn to former Alumni, Felix Rosenqvist, Marcus Armstrong or Callum Ilott as lead driver due to the trio’s experience in the category.

PREMA are also expected to provide ‘new opportunities’ for European drivers with this move, which has seen 2023 F2 vice-champion, Frederik Vesti tipped for the seat although Bearman is speculated for a move Stateside if he doesn’t secure a F1 drive next season.

IndyCar President, Jay Frye added: “PREMA Racing, with their global reach and extraordinary presence in open-wheel racing, will be a great addition to our growing and highly competitive paddock.

“We look forward to seeing Rene and PREMA on the NTT INDYCAR SERIES grid in 2025.”

PREMA are widely expected to continue racing in their current categories on top of their new IndyCar commitments from next season.
