Liverpool meet Luton Town at Anfield in a huge Premier League clash affecting the title and relegation battles.
Victory would see Liverpool extend their lead at the summit, whilst Luton can climb back out of the relegation zone with a win or draw.
Team News
Darwin Nunez is a doubt for Liverpool after he suffered a knock in their win at Brentford, which saw him substituted at half-time.
Diogo Jota (knee) and Curtis Jones (bone) are however both ruled out.
Ben Doak, Trent Alexander-Arnold (both knee), Joel Matip (ACL), Thiago Alcantara (muscle), Stefan Bajcetic (calf) Alisson and Dominik Szoboszlai (both hamstring) remain absent.
Luton will be without Elijah Adebayo after the striker suffered a hamstring injury during warm-up for their defeat at home to Manchester United.
Jacob Brown (knee), Mads Andersen (calf), Marvelous Nakamba (knee) and Tom Lockyer (illness) remain absent.
When is Kick-Off?
Liverpool host Luton at Anfield on Wednesday 21 February at 7:30pm GMT, untelevised live in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Liverpool drew 1-1 in their only previous Premier League meeting against Luton in November 2023.
- Luton are visiting Liverpool at Anfield for the first time in the Premier League, but are winless in 11 previous top-flight visits (D3, L8).
- Two of Liverpool’s last three meetings against Luton in all competitions have ended in a 1-1 draw.
- Diogo Jota has scored in each of Liverpool’s last three home games in all competitions (W3).
- Carlton Morris has scored in each of Luton’s last two way games in the Premier League (D2).
Prediction
Despite losing Jones and Jota at Brentford, Liverpool certainly impressed defensively with resilient game management, whilst their attack was consistently clinical once they hit their groove after a sluggish opening half-hour even in light of enforced changes.
Luton meanwhile lost their game in the opening seven minutes with an exposed defence and poor marking at fault, yet they did incredibly well to not implode and instead looked the better team yet couldn’t find a deserved draw.
Rob Edwards’ Hatters though will be aware that Liverpool will have one eye on Sunday’s Carabao Cup Final, which could offer them hope of getting something if Jurgen Klopp rotates his squad but I just can’t see Liverpool losing here.
Prediction: Liverpool 2-0 Luton
Result: Liverpool 4-1 Luton
