Arsenal moved back top of the Premier League in a busy matchweek marred by a medical incident at Bournemouth.
Second half goals from Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz saw Arsenal end Brighton’s 32-match goalscoring run with a 2-0 home victory at the Emirates, which put Mikel Arteta’s Gunners top.
Liverpool dropped to second after they were held to a frustrating goalless draw at home by ten-man Manchester United, despite the Red Devils’ Diogo Dalot having been sent off in injury-time.
Late goals from Alex Moreno and Ollie Watkins saw third-placed Aston Villa come from behind to win at ten-men Brentford, who had led through Keane Lewis Potter before Ben Mee was sent off although Villa finished with ten men too after Boubacar Kamara was sent off in injury-time.
Manchester City round out the top four following a 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace, having led through goals from Jack Grealish and Rico Lewis before Jean-Philippe Mateta and Michael Olise equalised for the Eagles.
Down in the relegation zone, Sheffield United remain rock bottom on goal difference after a 2-0 defeat away at Chelsea where Cole Palmer netted the opening goal for the Blues, before he created their second goal which Nicolas Jackson converted from close-range.
Amadou Onana’s header and Michael Keane’s rebound strike proved enough for Everton to beat second-bottom Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor.
Luton remain third-bottom after their match away to Bournemouth was abandoned at 1-1 after their captain, Tom Lockyer suffered a cardiac arrest shortly after Dominic Solanke equalised in the 58th minute for the hosts to cancel out Elijah Adebayo’s third minute header.
Elsewhere, Dejan Kulusevsi set up Richarlison’s opening goal before he then wrapped up Tottenham’s 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest with a 65th minute winner, although Spurs finished with ten men after Yves Bissouma was red carded for a high tackle on Ryan Yates.
Lewis Miley became Newcastle’s youngest goalscorer in the Premier League at 17 years and 229 days as his opening goal fired the Magpies to a 3-0 home win over Fulham, with Miguel Almiron and Dan Burn also on the scoresheet after Fulham’s Raul Jimenez had been sent off.
Finally, Mohammed Kudus’s brace and Jarrod Bowen’s strike fired West Ham to a 3-0 home win over Wolves, with all three goals created by Lucas Paqueta as the Brazilian claimed a hat-trick of assists.
