17 year-old midfielder, Lewis Miley has committed his future to Newcastle United.

Miley made his senior debut for Newcastle as a substitute in the Magpies’ 1-1 draw at Chelsea on the final day of last season, and has since established himself within the first team this season with 17 appearances in all competitions.

The youngster scored his first senior goal for Newcastle in a 3-0 Premier League win at home to Fulham in December 2023.

Just days earlier, Miley became the youngest player to provide an assist for an English club in UEFA Champions League as he set up Joelinton’s opening goal in an eventual 2-1 loss at home to AC Milan which saw the Magpies crash out of Europe.

Speaking to nufc.co.uk about his decision to sign a new long-term contract just months after he signed his first professional contract in May 2023, Miley said: “It’s a really proud moment for me and my family to sign another professional contract with my boyhood club. I couldn’t be prouder.

“Hopefully I can continue to do well over the next few years, and I can keep improving my performance and getting better as a player.

“It’s a real joy playing in front of the fans, especially to hear them chanting my name. Their support means so much to me and my family, and I’m looking forward to the future.”

Manager, Eddie Howe heaped praise on Miley for his contributions to the first team as he added: “Lewis is an exceptional young talent and has all the attributes to be a huge part of Newcastle United’s journey, both now and for many years to come.

“He has already contributed to the team with excellent performances in very challenging circumstances this season, and we are very excited about what is to come as he continues to develop his game and grow with us.”

Howe also praised the club’s Academy staff for their role in nurturing Miley’s development and iterated that Miley “… is a shining example of the club’s talent pathway and he can hopefully inspire our younger players to follow in his footsteps.”
