UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifiers: Matchweek Five Roundup

Roundup of the fifth matchweek of UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifiers as some teams moved onto the brink of qualification.

A hectic round of action saw each qualification group begin to take shape as those set to secure qualification began to emerge, whilst others saw their dreams of reaching next summer’s Euros begin to fade.

Now, here is a full roundup of all the action within every qualifying group.

 

Group A

Scott McTominay and John McGinn both scored and provided assists for each other as Scotland won 3-0 away to Cyprus, which has left Steve Clarke’s Tartan Army on the cusp of qualification with two points needed from their last three matches.

Lamine Yamal became Spain’s youngest goalscorer at 16 years and 57 days, as the La Roja hammered Georgia 7-1 during which Alvaro Morata netted a hat-trick.

 

Group B

France remain top of Group B after Aurelien Tchouameni and Marcus Thuram both scored in a routine 2-0 win over Republic of Ireland in Paris.

Denzel Dumfries provided assists for Cody Gakpo and Wout Weghorst in a 3-0 win over Greece, after Marten De Roon opened the scoring for the Dutch.

 

Group C

England remain top of Qualifying Group C after Kyle Walker cancelled out Oleksandr Zinchenko in a 1-1 draw away to second-placed Ukraine.

Enis Bardhi cancelled out Ciro Immobile’s 47th minute goal as North Macedonia fought back to hold Italy to a 1-1 draw at home.

 

Group D

Bertug Yidirim rescued Qualifying Group D leaders, Turkey a 1-1 draw at home to Armenia, who had led through Artak Dashyan’s 49th minute goal.

Bruno Petkovic scored twice as Croatia smashed Latvia 5-0 to climb to second in the group, with Luka Ivanusec, Andrej Kramaric and Mario Pasalic also on the scoresheet.

 

Group E

Vaclav Cerny and Nedim Bajrami both found the net as Qualifying Group E leaders, Czech Republic and Albania played out a 1-1 draw in Prague.

Robert Lewandowski struck twice as Poland defeated Faroe Islands 2-0 in Warsaw to move up to third in the group.

 

Group F

Yannick Carrasco’s 38th minute winner proved enough for Belgium to scrape a group-topping 1-0 away win against Azerbaijan.

Viktor Gyokeres, Dejan Kulusevski, Alexander Isak, Robin Quaison and Viktor Claesson were all on the scoresheet as third-placed Sweden hammered Estonia 5-0 away in Tallinn.

 

Group G

Quick-fire goals from Barnabas Varga and Willi Orban saw leaders, Hungary come from behind to win 2-1 away to Serbia, who had led through Attila Szalai’s 10th-minute own goal.

Fedor Cernych struck an injury-time equaliser as Lithuania fought back to draw 2-2 at home to Montenegro, after the visitors had taken a 89th minute lead through Stefan Savic after Nikola Krstovic cancelled out Lithuania’s opening goal from Gytis Paulauskas.

 

Group H

Oliver Antman’s 78th minute winner saw Finland edge past Kazakhstan in Astana to stay top of Qualifying Group H.

Premier League’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Christian Eriksen struck for Denmark in a 4-0 home win over San Marino either side of Joakim Maehle and Jonas Wind’s goals, as the Danes climbed to second in the group.

Slovenia moved up to third with a dramatic 4-2 victory at home to Northern Ireland, in which Andraz Sporar scored twice for the Slovenians.

 

Group I

Switzerland stayed top with a 2-2 draw away to Kosovo as Vedat Muriqi’s second-half brace twice saw the hosts come from behind to hold the Swiss.

Romania missed a chance to move level on points with Switzerland after Denis Alibec’s goal was cancelled out by Oscar Gloukh in a 1-1 draw in Bucharest against Israel.

Andorra held Belarus to a goalless draw in Andorra la Vella to dent the faint qualification hopes of both teams.

 

Group J

Bruno Fernandes’ 43rd minute winner saw Portugal defeat second-placed Slovakia 1-0 away in Bratislava to stay top of Qualifying Group J.

Maxime Chanot, Yvandro Borges Sanches and Daniel Sinani all struck for third-placed Luxembourg in a 3-1 win at home to Iceland.

A third-minute goal from Edin Dzeko and Simon Luchinger’s own-goal saw Bosnia & Herzegovina beat Liechtenstein 2-1 in Zenica.
