Fulham have signed goalkeeper, Steven Benda from Swansea City for an undisclosed fee.

Benda becomes Fulham’s fifth signing of this summer’s transfer window after Raul Jimenez, Calvin Bassey, Adama Traore and Timothy Castagne also joined the Cottagers.

The 24 year-old goalkeeper will also provide Marek Rodak serious competition as Fulham’s back-up goalkeeper to Bernd Leno, once he is fit and available for selection, because he is still sidelined with a serious knee injury suffered in January.

Speaking to FFCtv about his decision to move to Craven Cottage and play Premier League football, Benda commented: “I’m really happy. It’s a massive club with a lot of history and tradition, so I’m really happy to be here.

“Just look at this stadium, and the Club itself, playing for Marco Silva, it was a very easy decision.”

Vice-Chairman and Director of Football Operations, Tony Khan added: “I’m pleased to welcome Steven Benda to Fulham.

“He’s a talented young goalkeeper, and while he’s currently recovering from injury, we’ve monitored him for some time and believe that he’ll be a valuable addition to Marco’s squad upon his return.”

The 24 year-old German began his career with 1860 Munich where he impressed within their youth academy, which saw Swansea swoop for him in August 2017, where he graduated through their youth system and went on to make 31 senior appearances for the Swans.

Benda also enjoyed loan spells with Swindon Town and Peterborough United in 2019-20 and 21-22 seasons respectively, as part of his development at Swansea.

In response to Benda’s departure, Swansea released the following statement: “Everyone at Swansea City thanks Steven for his efforts during his time at the club, and wishes him well in his future career.”
