Stoke City have signed Irish goalkeeper, Mark Travers on a season-long loan from Bournemouth.
Travers lost his role as first-choice goalkeeper to Neto last season which limited him to just 15 appearances in all competitions.
Bournemouth consequently have decided to send Travers to Stoke on a season-long loan to gain regular game time, especially with Andrei Radu set to join the Cherries from Inter Milan on a season-long loan.
“This is a great opportunity to test myself in the Championship again and I am pleased to have had the interest from Stoke City,” commented Travers on his return to the second-tier where he made 46 appearances across 2021-22 seasons with Bournemouth.
Travers is Stoke’s eighth signing of the transfer window as he joins Wolves’ Ki-Jana Hoever and Chiquinho amongst loan signings at the BET65 Stadium.
“It is a chance for me to play for a great manager at a really exciting time for the Club, especially with the new signings that are arriving.”
Travers also revealed that he has spoken to his former Bournemouth teammate, Ben Pearson as he added: “I have heard good things about the Club from players here now – including Ben Pearson and Enda Stevens – and others who have played here before.
“I feel like this is an exciting project and the next step in my career.”
Stoke’s Technical Director, Ricky Martin meanwhile has praised Travers for his “rare and remarkable,” success at just 24 years-old, during which he kept 20 clean sheets as Bournemouth were automatically promoted to Premier League at end of 2021-22 season.
Martin however admitted that the club are lucky to sign Travers on loan, as he explained: “There was of course a keen interest in Mark from other clubs, so we’re delighted that he’s chosen to come to Stoke City.”
Travers could make his competitive debut for Stoke at home to Rotherham on Saturday 5 August in a 3pm BST kick-off.
