Coventry City have signed defender, Joel Latibeaudiere from Swansea City following agreement of compensation.
Latibeaudiere left Swansea upon expiration of his contract last month but because he is under the age of 24 years old, Coventry weren’t able to complete a free transfer until compensation had been agreed with Swansea which has finally been sorted with the fee remaining undisclosed.
The 23 year-old has now signed a four-year contract with Coventry until June 2027, after having scored three goals in 79 appearances for Swansea in a three-year spell since he joined in October 2020
Manager, Mark Robins is “very pleased” to sign Latibeaudiere who he described as “… a composed, ball-playing centre-half, who has experience of playing in the Championship and also internationally.
“He’s a versatile defender who fits in with our style of play and is an important signing for us, and we look forward to working with him.”
Swansea meanwhile issued the following statement on Latibeaudiere’s departure: “Everyone at Swansea City wishes Joel well in his future career, having made 79 appearances and scored three goals during his three seasons with the club.”
Latibeaudiere previously began his career at Manchester City where he progressed through their youth academy but failed to make a senior appearance, during which he went out on loan to Netherlands’ FC Twente in 2019-20 season where he scored one goal in six appearances.
The 23 year-old represents Jamaica in international football and has earned five senior caps in total as he most recently helped the Reggae Boyz reach the semi-finals of 2023 Gold Cup, only to miss out on the final following a 3-0 loss to Mexico.
