Rangers have signed forward, Abdallah Sima on a season-long loan from Brighton & Hove Albion for 2023-24 season.

Sima spent last season on loan at France’s Angers where he scored five goals in 33 appearances, following a previous loan stint at Stoke City in 2021-22 season.

The 22 year-old also becomes Rangers’ fifth signing of the window, following the arrivals of; Kieran Dowell, Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling and Sam Lammers.

Speaking about his decision to join Rangers on loan, Sima commented: “Rangers is a big club with a big history. I played here for Slavia Prague two or three years ago and when I came here I liked it so for me it is very exciting to join Rangers.”

Sima also revealed that he is happy to be playing under manager, Michael Beale as he added: “I spoke with Michael Beale and it was a very natural conversation, he told me about Rangers and about how we will be playing.

“I already knew a bit about how Rangers play so when they called me I was very honoured.”

Beale meanwhile is “delighted” to sign Sima and can’t wait to start coaching the forward as he added: “He is a player I’m excited to work with, he has excellent variety in his game and can fulfil a number of attacking positions in our team.”

Beale also acknowledged Sima’s top-flight experience with Slavia Prague of having played top-flight football plus Europa League – during which the Czech side beat Rangers in 2020-21 Europa League’s Round of 16, as he iterated that Sima fits “our style of play” following discussions over “alignment” of vision.

The ex QPR boss also revealed that he had been following Sima since the 22 year-old broke through into Slavia Prague’s first-team, as he continued: “He is someone I have followed closely since his breakthrough in the Czech Republic and I am extremely pleased to have Abdallah join the squad at the very start of pre-season.”

Beale also praised Brighton for their support in completing this loan move for Sima, as he concluded: “I would also like to say thank you to the staff at Brighton who have been excellent since our initial contact a number of weeks ago.”

Brighton’s Technical Director, David Weir meanwhile is hopeful that Sima “can get a good run of games with Rangers this coming season, both domestically and in European competition,” whilst vowing to monitor his progress after injury issues during his last two loan spells away from the Seagulls.
