Goalkeeper, Jack Butland has departed Crystal Palace on a free transfer to join Rangers.

Butland’s move comes after three seasons at Palace where he made 17 appearances in total across the last two seasons following his move from Stoke City in October 2020.

Butland failed to make a single appearance this season in all competitions for Palace prior to a loan switch to Manchester United in the second half of the campaign, which proved unsuccessful with no appearances for the Red Devils.

Rangers have consequently swooped for the 30 year-old who has signed a four-year contract until June 2027, with the deal set to become official on 1 July 2023 once Butland’s contract at Palace expires a day earlier on 30 June.

Speaking about his decision to move to Rangers, Butland said: “I’m over the moon. The club speaks for itself. No matter where you are in football, you know about Rangers Football Club. This is a huge opportunity for me, and I’m delighted to be here.

“I feel great and motivated at the age that I am, and I feel excited at what the future holds. Doing that at a club that is equally as passionate about winning and being at the top was huge for me.

“It’s an important summer for the club and we need to get off to a good start. Getting the work done early is hugely important, so that we’re settled and raring to go when we come back in.”

Rangers manager, Michael Beale added that he is “delighted” to sign Butland who he believes has “a strong alignment on football” with the club’s plans moving forward.

Beale also acknowledged that with “huge experience” amassed across English football, Butland is now hitting “the prime years of his career” and is ready to become the club’s first-choice goalkeeper upon arrival at Ibrox.

The ex QPR manager also iterated that he is confident that Rangers have signed “an excellent goalkeeper and, importantly, a top person.”

Palace issued the following statement on Butland’s departure in which they commented: “Everyone at Crystal Palace would like to thank Jack for his efforts in south London, and wish him all the best for the future.”
