Brentford manager, Thomas Frank has applauded the “willpower” of his players after falling to a 2-0 defeat at Wolves.

Goals from Diego Costa and Hwang Hee-Chan saw Wolves clinch a comfortable home victory over Frank’s Bees, who have now lost three consecutive games for the first time this season and now look set to miss out on European qualification due to results elesewhere swinging against their favour.

“It was a very even game that we could have got something out of but didn’t,” commented Frank as he applauded the “lot of effort” from his players, who he believes displayed “a lot of willpower.”

Frank proceeded to add that Wolves simply dealt with ricoheted balls better as he continued: “First half, in many ways, we were good and probably had the biggest chance of the game to Josh Dasilva.

“It was a ricocheted situation that didn’t drop to us; their two goals came from ricocheted balls.

“That tells you a little bit about this game – it’s marginal, when it tips one side to another. Today, unfortunately, it tipped to Wolves’ side.

“Until the 2-0 goal, it was very even. After that, it was still even, but we were running after them, we couldn’t get the pressure right, and we couldn’t keep the ball for long enough spells, unfortunately.”

Brentford now sit seven points off sixth-placed Aston Villa who have claimed 38 points from 18 league games since Unai Emery took charge in November, with the pair set to meet in West London on Saturday 22 April at 3pm BST untelevised in the UK.

Explaining what his Bees need to do to turn around their rut, Frank said: “It’s all about consistency and to keep doing what we’ve been working towards for many years here at Brentford,” as he bemused the challenge that lies ahead in finishing this season on a positive note.
