Luton Town have signed midfielder, Marvelous Nakamba on loan from Aston Villa until end of 2022-23 season.

Nakamba joined Villa in August 2019 and was part of the team who reached 2019-20 League Final – where they lost to Manchester City – in his first season at the club where he made 34 appearances.

Injuries and tough competition though has limited him to just 34 total appearances across the last two seasons, whilst he hasn’t even made one senior appearance this season which has led Villa to let him move to Luton on loan until end of season.

Speaking about his switch to Luton and the Championship, Nakamba said that he is “very happy” to move to Kenilworth Road, which sees him reunited with ex Villa teammate, Henri Lansbury, plus Ethan Horvath who was his teammate at Club Brugge.

Luton currently sit seventh in the Championship and outside of the promotion play-off positions on goal difference, but Nakamba is relishing the task ahead, as he iterated that he is ready to help Luton achieve their “ambition” and contributing to their promotion challenge.

Manager, Rob Edwards meanwhile is “pleased” to sign Nakamba who he has described as a “natural, deep midfield” player and adds further depth to the squad.

On what Nakamba will add to the squad following Glen Rea’s departure on loan to Cheltenham Town, Edwards said: “He’s got a brilliant attitude, great physicality, good quality and I think he really suits the way we play, so he will fit in really well with us.

“He’s had amazing experiences playing in the Premier League and Champions League, and we want him to bring all of that to try to help improve us.”

Edwards however admitted that this transfer window has brought “difficult decisions” but has vowed that Luton’s transfer business has been about how they “keep improving and moving forward,” with view of claiming promotion at end of season.

Nakamba could make his debut for Luton at home to Stoke City on Saturday 4 February in a 3pm GMT kick-off.

Villa meanwhile has recalled Aaron Ramsey from his loan spell at Norwich and sent him back out on loan, this time to Middlesbrough, who are battling both Norwich and Luton for a play-off spot.
