Midfielder, Josh Onomah has signed a six-month contract with Preston North End on a free transfer from Fulham.

The Cottagers earlier today (31 January) confirmed that Onomah had been released from his contract just three-and-a-half years after he signed from Tottenham Hotspur in a part-exchange deal for Ryan Sessegnon.

Onomah consequently left Craven Cottage with five goals in 76 appearances plus was part of two promotion winning teams in 2019-20 and 21-22 seasons, either side of relegation from Premier League in 20-21 campaign.

In a brief statement on Onomah’s departure, Fulham commented: ‘Everyone at the Club would like to thank Josh for his efforts during his three-and-a-half years in SW6, and wish him the very best of luck in the future.’

Onomah though has swiftly signed a six month contract with Preston until end of this season as a free agent.

Speaking about his decision to step back down into the Championship and join Preston, Onomah said: “I’m someone who enjoys football and I believe if a manager shares that same interest then that’s something that will definitely persuade me to come.”

Onomah proceeded to explain that he was impressed by manager, Ryan Lowe and “his philosophy and everything he does,” following discussions ahead of signing his contract.

Onomah now is excited to get into the swing of things at Deepdale as he added: “I can’t wait to meet all the lads and get straight to it straight away, and I can’t wait to start playing football again.

“I think at this stage of my career it’s very important and I believe I can do that here with the players’ help and the gaffer.

Lowe meanwhile admitted that he is “really pleased” to sign Onomah who will bring “experience of promotion” to the team, as they battle for a play-off spot.

Onomah has made just two senior appearances this season which doesn’t faze Lowe as he continued: “We’re aware he hasn’t played many minutes this season, but we’ll get him up to match speed and I’m sure he’ll be a real coup for us.

“I’m hoping we can help Josh get back to his best and he’s now got the opportunity to earn a longer contract with us.”

Onomah could make his debut for Preston in a home clash against Bristol City on Saturday 4 February at 3pm GMT.
