Andretti Global and General Motors have announced a partnership to pursue an opportunity to join F1 as a constructor.
This announcement comes just days after FIA president, Mohammed Ben Sulayem instructed the FIA to launch an ‘Expression of Interest’ process in search of new teams to join the F1 grid.

Andretti Global and General Motors have consequently decided to partner and pursue a bid to join the F1 grid – with General Motorsports represented by Cadillac brand, which comes after F1’s recent growth in America with Miami, Texas and Las Vegas all hosting races this season.
Andretti Global Chairman and CEO plus ex F1 driver with McLaren in 1993, Michael Andretti issued a statement in which he described Andretti as “well suited to be a new team for Formula One and can bring value to the series and our partners, and excitement for the fans.”
On General Motors and Cadillac’s involvement, Andretti added: “I’m proud to have GM and Cadillac alongside us as we pursue this goal. GM and Andretti share a legacy born out of the love of racing.
“We now have the opportunity to combine our motorsport passions and dedication to innovation to build a true American F1 bid.”
Andretti also iterated that both parties “will continue to follow procedures and steps put forth by the FIA during the evaluation process”, whilst continuing optimistic preparations for the event that their application is “formally approved” by the FIA.
General Motors President, Mark Reuss added that the team is “honored” to partner with Andretti Global to form a potential American F1 team, with view to creating “even more global interest in the series and the sport.”
On the decision to use their Cadillac brand, Reuss added: “Cadillac and F1 both have growing global appeal. Our brand has a motorsports pedigree that’s more than a century in the making, and we would be proud to have the opportunity to bring our distinct American innovation and design to F1.”
Ben Sulayem has since welcomed the partnership as he tweeted:
