Ex F1 driver, Pedro de la Rosa has been appointed as an ambassador for Aston Martin.

De la Rosa previously drove in F1 between 1999-2012 for five different teams – including Jaguar, McLaren and HRT – during which he scored 35 points in 104 races, including second place at 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix for McLaren.

The Spaniard eventually spent 2013-14 seasons as a Test Driver at Ferrari before becoming Team Aguri’s pre-season test driver in 2015-16 Formula E campaign.

De la Rosa now will return to F1 as ambassador for Aston Martin, where he will perform ‘communications, media, PR, marketing, promotional, commercial and general advisory duties’ with the team alongside their media, commercial, marketing and guest services operatives.

Away from media-related duties, de la Rosa will also serve as a consultant on Aston Martin’s Driver Development Programe, in which he will help with selection and training of junior talent like Felipe Drugovich who is the first driver on the programme.

Speaking about his new role, de la Rosa admitted that he is “delighted” to join Aston Martin where he already knows several familar team members, as well as their new signing for next season – Fernando Alonso who he knows from their time together at McLaren and Ferrari.

On what he will add to the team, the 51 year-old Spaniard revealed that he is looking to “draw” upon his “experience and expertise” to help Aston Martin progress next season, with his focus mainly “on supporting the marketing and commercial side of the business.”

With Alonso adding fresh experience from the driver side of F1 next season, de la Rosa has admitted that he can’t wait to reunite with his “old friend and fellow countryman”, whilst also working alongside “a gifted racer” in Lance Stroll to build an “exciting future.”

Team Principal, Mike Krack added that de la Rosa’s arrival demonstrates the team’s “determination to build and strengthen every element” of their operations on and off the track.

On what de la Rosa will add to Aston Martin, Krack commented: “Pedro’s role as Team Ambassador will be central to our efforts to improve the work we do with our partners, engage with media and fans, and launch our new Driver Development Programme.

“No-one in Formula One would deny Pedro’s expertise and experience – they are second to none – and I am confident that he will not only deliver for us within the remit of his role but will also find new ways to help us develop and improve in other areas. He is a fantastic addition to our team.”
