Southampton look to bounce back from consecutive defeats as Ralph Hassenhuttl’s Saints host Everton at St Mary’s Stadium.
With Southampton and Everton locked on seven points apiece coming into this match, victory could lift either team into the top-half of the table depending upon results elsewhere.
Team News
Southampton have no fresh injury concerns to report after their defeat at Aston Villa as Duje Caleta-Car looks for his first start, having been named as an unused substitute at Villa Park.
Valentino Livramento (knee) and Romeo Lavia (muscle) remain ruled out.
Everton will be without Nathan Patterson after the defender suffered an ankle injury whilst on international duty for Scotland.
Jordan Pickford (thigh) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (groin) are doubts but Ben Godfrey (fibula), Yerry Mina (ankle), Mason Holgate and Andros Townsend (both knee) remain absent.
Stat Attack
- Southampton have claimed seven points from their last five meetings against Everton (W2, D1, L2).
- Everton have won just one of their last six visits to St Mary’s Stadium (W1, L5).
- Southampton have scored 12 goals in their last six home matches against Everton.
- Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Saints have lost three of their last four matches by 1-0 results.
- Everton have scored one goal in eight of their last nine matches in all competitions (W2, D3, L3), with only exception being a goalless draw at home to Liverpool in early September 2022.
Prediction
Following two lacklustre away performances, Southampton definitely need a huge improvement now they’re back at home, especially following woeful finishing last time out in defeat against Aston Villa on top of weak defending – particularly from corners.
Everton meanwhile finally have a league win on the board this season following a decent narrow win over West Ham, where they were just lacklustre in the first-half yet improved second-half intensity and clinical finishing just proved the difference.
Both teams though will have different points to prove so I am not expecting a classic and a score draw might well be a decent result.
Prediction: Southampton 1-1 Everton
Result: Southampton 1-2 Everton
