Burnley welcome Hull City to Turf Moor in a stand-out midweek encounter in the 2022-23 Sky Bet Championship.
Victory could take Burnley up into the top six depending on results elsewhere, whilst Hull can go top for 24 hours with a win.
Team News
Burnley captain, Jack Cork will be looking for a recall after he was left out of the starting line-up in their defeat at Watford on Friday evening.
Jay Rodriguez could also start after recovering from a knock, which saw him make his first appearance of the season from the bench at Vicarage Road.
Ashley Westwood (ankle), Scott Twine (knock), Johan Berg Gudmundsson (fitness) and Kevin Long (unspecified) remain absent.
Hull could again be without Jean Michael Seri after he missed their last two matches with an unspecified injury.
Ryan Longman (fitness) is a doubt but Brandon Fleming (foot), Greg Docherty (quad), Tyler Smith (hamstring), Dogukan Sinik (calf) and James Scott (shin) remain absent.
Stat Attack
- Burnley have lost two of their last eight Championship meetings against Hull (W6, L2).
- Hull have won two of their five previous Championship visits to Burnley (W2, L5).
- Burnley have scored once in each of their last three home clashes against Hull (W2, D1).
- Each of Burnley’s two conceded league goals this season have come before half-time.
- Despite scoring four goals in their opening three league matches this season, Hull are yet to register an assist for any of their league goals this season.
Prediction
Having endured a sluggish start to the season full of wasted chances, Burnley certainly need to start finding their clinical edge because for all their efforts at Watford, they simply lack quality in the final third which proved costly.
One positive though is that the Clarets have outplayed their three opponents so far this season yet results have been mixed, so there is a solid foundation to build upon and I do wonder if they should of kept Wout Weghorst around given his experience and firepower rather than loan him to Besiktas.
Hull meanwhile were outplayed by Norwich on Saturday but unlike Burnley, their new signings seem to have settled quickly and added extra quality which is already evident in their play and goalscoring to put them higher up the table than many thought.
All pressure at Turf Moor though will be on the hosts because they really need a reaction and start finding goals, whereas Hull are again underdogs and if they play like they did against Norwich then I fancy them to nick something from this game.
Prediction: Burnley 1-1 Hull
Result: Burnley 1-1 Hull
