2026-27 Premier League: Week Two – Man Utd vs Ipswich

Manchester United face Ipswich at Old Trafford in the penultimate game of the second matchweek of the 2026-27 Premier League season. 

Victory could lift Man Utd up to 11th, whilst Ipswich can climb into the top four with a win if results elsewhere go in their favour.

 

Team News

New signing, Carlos Baleba is ruled out for Man Utd as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury that forced him to miss Brighton’s 4-0 victory over Aston Villa last weekend.

Mason Mount (foot) faces a late fitness check but Amad Diallo is still ruled out after an unspecified injury in training forced him to miss their 2-0 loss at Hull.

Tom Heaton (knock), Matthijs De Ligt (back) and Manuel Ugarte (knee) are still sidelined.

Ipswich could hand new signing, Exequiel Palacios his debut at Old Trafford.

Florentino Luis (calf) is a doubt but Jaden Philogene is again ruled out after he was a late absentee for their 2-1 league win at home over Sunderland last weekend, then 3-1 Carabao Cup win over Leicester on Tuesday evening.

Azor Matusiwa and Jack Taylor are still sidelined due to respective muscle and knee injuries.

• Man Utd have avoided defeat in their last seven league meetings against Ipswich (W5, D2).
• Ipswich are yet to win away to Man Utd in the Premier League (D2, L4).
• Benjamin Sesko has scored in two of Man Utd’s last three home matches (W3).
• Ipswich have won just one of their last four away matches (W1, D2, L1).

 

Prediction

Although there were promising signs in attack in their loss at Hull, Man Utd simply weren’t clinical with too many wasted final touches so I would like to see more composure up front, whilst their defence better have been working on set pieces because their marking was just poor last weekend.

Ipswich meanwhile were absolutely menacing against Sunderland on the counter-attack with two clinical goals and I think they will have to do more counter-attacking here, as this won’t be an easy game with Utd out to produce a strong reaction to their defeat last weekend.

As much as I hope that Ipswich can give Utd a proper test, I just think that Utd will be more polished and get the job done.
