Williams have announced that Logan Sargeant will drive for the team in FP1 at 2022 US Grand Prix in October.
Sargeant joined Williams’ Junior Academy in October 2021 after impressing across three seasons in F3 for Carlin, PREMA and Charouz, during which he claimed three race victories with the latter two teams.
The American graduated to F2 this season with Carlin where he currently lies third in the driver standings, with two wins and two further podium place finishes with four further rounds of the campaign left.
“I’m super excited to be given this opportunity to drive my first Free Practice in Austin,” commented Sargeant who described his FP1 drive on home soil at US GP as “extremely special”
The 21 year-old went on to thank Williams for their support and trust as he added: “A massive thank you to Williams for putting the trust and belief in me to do a good job. The goal for me will be to learn as much as possible in the new generation of cars.”
Williams’ Sporting Director, Sven Smeets meanwhile praised Sargeant for showcasing “… a great level of ability and maturity so far this season through his accomplishments both on and off the track.”
Smeets added that Sargeant’s excellent performances in F2 had been matched by his “hard work” when undertaking simulator sessions for Williams and believes that his achievements deserves recognition and reward of a FP1 session in Austin, Texas, USA.
On what Williams is expecting from Sargeant, Smeets said: “We’re looking forward to seeing him get behind the wheel of the FW44 and how his performance and feedback help the team’s preparations for the race in Austin.”
Sargeant will replace Nicholas Latifi for FP1 in Austin with the task of setting the Canadian’s car up for the rest of the weekend, whilst gaining “crucial data” for the team to take forward into the final races of the season.
The 2022 US GP weekend will take place from 21-23 October will Sargeant’s FP1 outing taking place on 21 October.
