Paris FC have signed defender, Diego Coppola from Brighton & Hove Albion for £17.1m.
Coppola spent the second half of last season on loan at Paris FC and registered two assists in 14 appearances, having struggled for game time at Brighton where he only managed nine appearances in the first half of the campaign following his move from Hellas Verona.
Paris FC consequently decided to sign him on a permanent transfer totalling £17.1m as the deal consisted of a £15.4m fixed fee plus £1.7m in add-ons, which in turn marked a £7.7m profit for Brighton who had signed him for a reported £9.4m last summer.
Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave explained that Coppola’s transfer was suitable for all parties in terms of Coppola’s development.
“Diego made a good impact with Paris during his loan there last season and it was a transfer both he and Paris FC were keen to pursue.
“With growing competition for places, this moved suits all parties and allows Diego to make the next step in his career. We wish him all the best.”
Paris FC Sporting Director, Marco Neppe added that the French club “are very happy” to complete Coppola’s transfer after his successful loan.
“It is a great pride, with this permanent transfer, to make Diego a real Paris FC player. Diego has shown us in recent months the full extent of his qualities and how much he can bring to the team. His commitment, exemplary professionalism and perfect integration into the dressing room were impressive.
“This says a lot about his personality. Rare are the players who combine all his qualities, as a footballer and as a man. Diego’s return to Paris FC is excellent news for us.”
