West Ham have appointed Mark Warburton as an Assistant Coach to manager, David Moyes.
Warburton has previously managed 347 matches in total across four different clubs between December 2013 and May 2022, as he began his coaching career at Brentford initially as Sporting Director in summer 2011 before he became manager two-and-a-half years later.
Following his departure from Brentford in May 2015, he went on to manage Rangers then Nottingham Forest, before he recently ended a three-year tenure in charge of QPR where he steadily led the Hoops up the Championship table.
During his time in management, he guided Brentford to promotion from League One in 2013-14 season as runner-up, followed by a Scottish Championship and Challenge Cup double in 2015-16 with Rangers in his first season in charge at Ibrox.
“It’s a huge privilege to be joining West Ham United to work as part of David Moyes’ backroom staff,” commented Warburton as he prepares to link up with the Hammers’ first-team squad on their return for pre-season this weekend.
Warburton also praised the club for their progress in recent seasons which saw them reach the semi-finals of last season’s Europa League and qualified for this season’s Europa Conference League, where they will enter at the Play-Off round.
Explaining his praise for the club’s forward development and offering his thoughts on what he will add to the coaching staff, Warburton said: “West Ham have made incredible progress in recent seasons, continually making forward strides to move the Club in a positive direction.
“I am excited about coming in and adding my own experience and know-how to what is an incredibly strong coaching team here.”
Manager, Moyes is “really pleased” to add Warburton to his coaching team as he explained: “He’s a really valuable addition to the backroom team, in the wake of Stuart Pearce leaving us at the end of last season.
“Mark is hugely experienced and has a fine track record, having managed at a number of Club’s over the course of his career.
“I’m excited about adding him to my coaching set-up as one of my assistants.”
Warburton will join Billy McKinlay, Paul Nevin, Kevin Nolan and Xavi Valero who are currently part of Moyes’ coaching team.
