Sorba Thomas has signed a new four-year contract to stay at Huddersfield Town until June 2026, with option of a further one-year extension.
This announcement comes after the 23 year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season with three goals in 50 appearances across all competitions, as well as 11 assists – more than any other Huddersfield player this season.
Thomas last season made just seven first-team appearances after he joined the club in January 2021 from Boreham Wood, where he had netted eight goals in 93 appearances.
The 23 year-old’s contract will run until June 2026 with the club holding an option to further extend that contract until June 2027.
Huddersfield Head Coach, Carlos Corberan has welcomed Thomas’ renewed commitment to the club as he highlighted how it demonstrates the “mentality” of the club to continue its development by retaining important first-team players.
Corberan went on to praise Thomas for his quality as he continued: “Sorba has shown that, in football mentality and ambition can make a big difference in the development of players.
“He’s a very competitive player and is among the most minutes played of any outfielder – only injuries have prevented more.”
Huddersfield’s Head of Football Operations, Leigh Bromby, added that despite having already signed a long-term contract until Summer 2024 when he joined the club, Thomas’ new contract serves as a “reward and recognition for his performances this season.”
Bromby also iterated that Thomas’ commitment is “very pleasing” and highlights the youngster’s belief that he is able to see himself continuing to develop and progress with Huddersfield.
Reflecting on Thomas’ impact in the last year-and-a-half, Bromby added: “Sorba is a great example to the players we bring into the Club.
The biggest compliment I can give him is that he totally bought into the programme when he arrived and worked with the B Team, working hard, trusting the process and the staff too. Those six months with the B Team have set him up for success with the Club.”
Thomas is currently in Portugal on a training camp with his Huddersfield teammates as the club prepares for the 2021-22 Championship Play-Off Final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 29 May, where the Terriers will face Nottingham Forest for promotion to the Premier League.
