Uncapped Nathan Broadhead has been called up to Wales’ squad for their 2022 FIFA World Cup Play-Off Final and UEFA Nations League fixtures.
Broadhead’s call-up has come after the 24 year-old has netted 13 goals in 25 appearances for Sunderland this season on loan from Everton, with Wales manager, Rob Page opting to name a 27-man squad given that Wales will play five games in 14 days next month.
In goal, Salford’s Tom King has been dropped with Page opting to recall Leicester’s Danny Ward to the squad.
Page meanwhile has snubbed Ben Cabango in defence whilst Ethan Ampadu has been switched to the midfield selection alongside the returning Matthew Smith, who replaces Will Vaulks with the Cardiff midfielder dropped from the squad.
Sorba Thomas and Brennan Johnson have both also been switched as they move into the midfield selection, rather than the forward selection in which they were named in for March’s international window.
Up front, Kieffer Moore returns to the squad after he missed March’s action through injury.
Wales will kick off a packed fortnight of five games across two competitions on Wednesday 1 June as they visit Poland in UEFA Nations League A in a 7:45pm BST kick-off.
Attention will then switch to a crunch 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Play-Off Final against Scotland or Ukraine on Sunday 5 June (5pm BST), with the winners joining England, Iran and USA in Group B at the main tournament in Qatar in November.
Wales will then return to UEFA Nations League action as they host Netherlands and Belgium on 8 and 11 June in 7:45pm BST kick-offs, ahead of a trip to the Netherlands on 14 June in a 7:45pm BST kick-off.
