Jurgen Klopp has committed his future to Liverpool with a new two-year contract extension until June 2026.
Klopp’s current contract was set to expire at the end of 2023-24 season but has now signed a new two-year contract extension at Anfield, which will see him remain in charge until June 2026 as he looks to add to his five titles with the Reds.
Speaking to liverpoolfc.com about his decision to stay at the club long-term, Klopp said: “There are so many words I could use to describe how I am feeling about this news… delighted, humbled, blessed, privileged and excited would be a start.
Klopp proceeded to explain his passion for the club and connection between himself and Liverpool as he continued: “There is just so much to love about this place. I knew that before I came here, I got to know it even better after I arrived and now I know it more than ever before.
“Like any healthy relationship, it always has to be a two-way street; you have to be right for each other. The feeling we were absolutely right for each other is what brought me here in the first place and it’s why I’ve extended previously.”
Klopp however hinted that he did initially think of declining a new contract after asking himself one question: “Is it right for Liverpool that I stay longer?” to which he decided the answer was “Yes!” following discussions with his assistant managers, Pep Lijnders and Pete Krawietz.
Explaining why he discussed his decision with his assistants, Klopp commented: “There is a freshness about us as a club still and this energises me.
“For as long as I have been here, our owners have been unbelievably committed and energetic about this club and it is clear that right now this applies to our future as much as I’ve ever known.”
Lijnders and Krawietz have also signed new deals with the latter having been part of Klopp’s coaching team since he arrived at Anfield in October 2015, whilst Lijnders initially joined as an Under-16s coach before returning as assistant manager after a spell managing NEC Nijmegen in Netherlands.
Klopp is delighted to see both assistant managers retained as he hailed the decision as “incredibly important” for his plans moving forward and for “invaluable” continuity heading into next season and beyond.
Liverpool currently sit second in the Premier League as they chase the league, FA Cup and Champions League titles to complete a historic quadruple, having already won this season’s League Cup after defeating Chelsea on penalties in February’s showpiece Final.
