2021-22 Premier League: Week 28 – Norwich vs Brentford

Norwich City welcome Brentford to Carrow Road in a huge clash in the race for Premier League survival.

Victory would see Norwich move off the foot of the table into 19th position, whereas Brentford can climb as high as 14th depending on results elsewhere.

Max Aarons and Brandon Williams could both return for Norwich after recovering from respective knocks, which forced them to miss Wednesday’s FA Cup exit at Liverpool.

Ozan Kabak (shoulder) could also be in contention but Adam Idah (knee) and Andrew Omobamidele (back) remain absent.

Brentford will be without Josh Dasilva as he serves a three-match ban after he was red carded in last weekend’s loss against Newcastle.

Tarique Fosu (hamstring) and Julian Jeanvier (knee) both remain absent.

Stat Attack

  • Norwich won their only previous Premier League meeting against Brentford – winning 2-1 in November 2021 in what proved to be Daniel Farke’s final match in charge.
  • Brentford have won two of their last five visits to Carrow Road (W2, L3).
  • Norwich have won each of their last two home matches against Brentford by 1-0 results in October 2018 and March 2021 respectively.
  • Each of Norwich’s last four bookings at home in the Premier League have come after half-time.
  • Brentford have conceded 11 goals in four away league matches in 2022 and scored just two goals in reply.

Prediction

With a five-point gap towards safety and Brentford sat seven points ahead, this match is a must-win for Norwich so starting on the front foot here like they finished at Liverpool in midweek is crucial, otherwise I struggle to see them getting that important win.

Brentford however look in defensive freefall still but they did well to minimise their defeat against Newcastle last weekend, despite being wasteful with their chances and defending well except when caught out by a corner then counter-attack.

First goal here however is crucial so this could get scrappy the longer the game stays goalless but I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the game that Thomas Frank’s Bees snap their winless streak.

Prediction: Norwich 0-1 Brentford

Result: Norwich 1-3 Brentford
