Zane Maloney has joined reigning teams’ champions, Trident for the 2022 F3 season.
Maloney who hails from Barbados graduates to F3 after a successful 2021 Formula Regional European Championship, where he finished fourth with one victory and seven other podium finishes.
Speaking about his decision to step up to F3 with Trident, Maloney said that he felt “proud” to make the step up and join the reigning teams’ champions.
Reflecting on his progress in his career so far and what he wants to achieve this season in F3, Maloney added: “In the last season I think I have grown as a driver, both in the management of race weekends and in the attention paid to every detail.
“Together with Trident Motorsport I want to continue in this direction and I am sure that there are all the ingredients to do well in the FIA Formula 3 Championship.
“I can’t wait to get on track and start this new adventure in an extremely popular and competitive series.”
Trident Team Principal, Giacomo Ricci meanwhile is “delighted” to sign Maloney after the 18 year-old impressed during the 2021 F3 Post-Season Test.
Explaining how impressive Maloney was during the three-day test in November, Ricci commented: “Zane adapted very quickly to the car of the third series, obtaining competitive feedback both in terms of performance and in the long runs.
“A strong bond was immediately created between the Barbadian driver and Trident Motorsport, which is proud to have secured a driver of good prospects with whom to compete in a demanding series such as the FIA Formula 3 Championship.”
Maloney will join Jonny Edgar at Trident for the season with the Italian team set to name their third and final driver in due course, ahead of pre-season testing in Sakhir, Bahrain, which takes place across 2-4 March 2022 ahead of the new nine-round season.
