Frederik Vesti has graduated to F2 with ART Grand Prix for the 2022 season and will partner Theo Pourchaire.
Vesti’s step up to F2 comes after two strongly consistent campaigns in F3 where he finished fourth in both 2020 and 21 seasons for PREMA and ART GP respectively, with four race victories in total whilst he also joined Mercedes’ junior programme in January 2021.
Speaking about his decision to graduate to F2, Vesti described the move as “a big thing” as he stays with ART GP despite the change in racing series.
Reflecting on his progress with the team last season and looking ahead to this season, Vesti said: “We worked incredibly hard in F3 last season and to continue the progress into Formula 2 together is important for my next step.
“Now it is crucial to understand all the small details of Formula 2 to achieve the maximum in 2022.”
Vesti participated in the 2021 Post-Season Test for ART GP where he focused on acclimatising himself to the Dallara F2 2018 car, as he finished all three days outside of the top ten following completion of his testing programme across each day.
Reflecting on that test in Abu Dhabi last month, Vesti added: “Testing in Abu Dhabi went really well, and I learned a lot of new things. I can’t wait to be in the car for the first test in Bahrain! I want to thank ART Grand Prix for this great opportunity and for believing in me.”
The 20 year-old Danish driver also shared the news on his Twitter page in which he described the move as “a huge milestone” in his racing career.

ART GP Team Principal, Sebastian Philippe meanwhile described Vesti’s performances last season in F3 as “fruitful”, following the capture of one win and four other podium finishes.
Philippe also iterated that he expects Vesti to fight for wins in F2 this season as he added: “Some details kept him from fighting for the title, but we know he has what it takes to do so. After two years of F3, the logical continuation of our collaboration goes through F2.
“The offseason testing has met our expectations and in 2022 we will aim to fight at the forefront.”
Confirmation of Vesti’s drive at ART GP where he will drive the number nine car now means that just three seats remain vacant ahead of the 2022 season.
