Charlton Athletic look to claim a Premier League scalp as Norwich City visit The Valley in Third Round of 2021-22 FA Cup.
Victory would see Charlton qualify for the Fourth Round for the first time since reaching the Quarter-Finals of 2013-14 season, whereas Norwich are looking to advance from this stage for a third consecutive season.
Team News
Jayden Stockley is a doubt for Charlton due to a hip injury which has kept him out of the Addicks’ last two matches in all competitions.
Akin Famewo (ineligible), Sam Lavelle (groin) and Jake Forster-Caskey (knee) remain absent.
Norwich will be without Lukas Rupp as the midfielder recovers from a hamstring injury.
Dimitris Giannoulis (knock), Grant Hanley (shoulder), Milot Rashica (groin), Tim Krul, Max Aarons, Todd Cantwell and Teemu Pukki (all Coronavirus) could all return.
Andrew Omobamidele (back), Christoph Zimmerman (ankle) and Mathias Normann (pelvis) remain absent.
Stat Attack
- Charlton are unbeaten against Norwich in two matches across their first-ever FA Cup tie in Third Round of 2008-09 FA Cup (W1, D1), which saw the Addicks win a replay 1-0 after a 1-1 draw at home.
- Norwich drew their only previous FA Cup visit to The Valley (D1), as Arturo Lupoli cancelled out Jonjo Shelvey’s opener in a comeback 1-1 draw on 3 January 2009 but lost the replay 1-0 at home.
- Jayden Stockley netted twice in each of Charlton’s two FA Cup matches this season during which the Addicks failed to concede any goals.
- Norwich are unbeaten in four of their last five away FA Cup matches (W2, D2, L1).
- Charlton have won just two of their last five FA Cup matches played at home (W2, L3).
Prediction
With just one loss in their nine home games across all competitions, Charlton will certainly fancy their chances of a cupset here because they have improved massively under Jonnie Jackson and have a threat in Connor Washington who has strived at home under Jackson.
Norwich’s priority meanwhile has to be survival in the Premier League but a win here could be a positive injection of fresh belief needed in this team, so I am expecting them to take this game seriously with a top team and just go for victory.
My gut instinct though feels that this game screams potential cupset and given the Addicks’ home form, I can see this going to extra time where fitness will play a role in settling this match.
Prediction: Charlton 2-1 (AET) Norwich
Result: Charlton 0-1 Norwich
