Everton have signed Nathan Patterson from Rangers in a £16m deal on a five-and-a-half year contract until June 2027.
Patterson’s move to Everton comes after a series of impressive displays for Rangers since graduating to the senior team in 2019-20 season, during which he scored twice in 27 appearances across all competitions.
Speaking to evertontv about his decision to join the Toffees, Patterson said: ”
“I’m over the moon to sign for Everton and looking forward to getting started,” Patterson told evertontv: “It was an easy choice to sign. This is a massive club with huge history and the fanbase is tremendous.”
Acknowledging that Everton aren’t currently fighting for European qualification, Patterson is confident of future progress as he added: “Obviously we aren’t in the place where we want to be right now but we can definitely get there with the talent in the changing room and staff here, and I have full belief we can do that.”
Patterson will play alongside “huge talent” including Jordan Pickford, Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes but the 20 year-old feels that he can learn from them in training and matches if he can “work my socks off” and match expectations of his £16m price tag.
On the prospect of playing under Rafael Benitez, Patterson added: “It was also great for me knowing the manager really wanted me here and that made my decision. When a club really wants you, it makes your mind up early on.
“I wanted to come here from the very start. I’m delighted to be here and really looking forward to playing in front of the fans at Goodison.”
“Athleticism, desire and strong challenges, along with good forward play.” teased attacking right-back, Patterson on what fans can expect from him at Goodison Park as he added that he “love getting forward and creating chances to benefit the team.”
With Seamus Coleman currently Everton’s long-serving right-back player, Patterson revealed that the pair have already “had a good conversation” with the Republic of Ireland international and is “really looking forward to learning from him and working together.”
Explaining what he is hoping to achieve from playing with Coleman, Patterson commented: “That is why I am here: to learn and get better as a player and, hopefully, win things and do well for the Club. If I am working alongside Seamus that is definitely going to happen.”
Patterson will wear the number three shirt and could make his debut in the Toffee’s away tie against Hull City in Third Round of 2021-22 FA Cup on Saturday 8 January, alongside Vitaliy Mykolenko who joined the Toffees on New Year’s Day.
