Grant Hanley has signed a new four-year contract extension to stay at Norwich City until June 2025.
Hanley joined Norwich in August 2017 from Newcastle United and has gone on to score four goals in 106 appearances across all competitions in the last four seasons.
Speaking on his decision to stay at Carrow Road for four more years, Hanley said that he was “over the moon” and “very grateful” that Daniel Farke and club staff at Norwich wanted him to stay.
Praising every member of staff for playing their part in making his time so far with the Canaries a pleasant experience, Hanley said: “Since the moment I walked through the door, It’s been so welcoming and and they’ve made me feel part of something.”
Hanley also spoke of his joy at securing stability for his family with this new contract extension, commenting: “To commit my future here means a lot to me and my family as well. My partner loves it here and it’s such a nice play to live.
“I have a little girl now who’s nearly a year old. Everything about the place is great and I’m really pleased.”
Farke meanwhile welcomed Hanley’s decision to extend his time at Carrow Road which left the German feeling “absolutely delighted” to retain his club captain.
Reflecting on their four seasons together after having joined in same season as Hanley, albeit three months earlier, Farke said: “I have been working with him for many years now and it has been a joy and a pleasure. He’s a great character and also our club captain.
“He is a great footballer and a great personality in the dressing room. We need his quality and also his personality to be successful. It is great that he has committed his future to the football club.”
Hanley’s contract extension comes after Dimitri Giannoulis and Ben Gibson converted their loan deals into permanent transfers, whilst Angus Gunn, Milot Rashica and Pierre Lees-Melou have signed for the Canaries in the last month.
Norwich will play 2021-22 season in the Premier League after winning instant rebound promotion last season as champions of Sky Bet Championship, with the Canaries set to host Liverpool in their opening match on Saturday 14 August at 5:30pm BST.
