Angus Gunn has returned to Norwich City after re-signing for the Canaries from Southampton on a four-year contract.

Gunn begun his career with Norwich before joining Manchester City’s youth system in 2011 before returning on loan in 2017-18 season on loan, where he featured in all of the Canaries’ 46 Sky Bet Championship matches.

The 25 year-old has spent the last three seasons at Southampton although he went out on loan to Stoke last season, only to be hit with respective ankle and foot injuries during his stay in the Midlands.

Speaking on his decision to return to Carrow Road, Gunn described the move as “an unbelievable feeling” just like he felt the same emotions when he first joined Norwich on loan in summer 2017, although this time he is joining on a permanent deal.

Gunn is also the son of ex Canaries goalkeeper, Bryan and grew up supporting the club throughout his childhood as he praised the progress of the team in recent years, commenting: “It’s the club that I grew up supporting and the strides that it has made over the last few years show it’s a club still on the up.”

The ex Southampton goalkeeper also confirmed that he has already held discussions with manager, Daniel Farke and Goalkeeping Coach, Ed Wootten this summer, with all three parties knowing plenty of details about one another.

Farke in turn complimented Gunn as the “perfect fit” for Norwich’s first-team goalkeeping selection, alongside two experienced players in Tim Krul and Michael McGovern and a young goalie in Daniel Barden as the club prepare for short, medium and long-term futures.

Explaining the decision to sign Gunn, Farke said: “He’s in a perfect age and is full of potential. He’s proven that he can play on the top level and was fantastic for us three seasons ago.

“He played almost each and every second for us and of course he has a huge identification and connection with the football club through his father.”

Gunn also received his maiden England call-up whilst on loan at the Canaries in November 2017 as an unused squad member in a friendly against Brazil, before being named in a training camp squad ahead of 2018 FIFA World Cup despite missing out on the final squad selection.

Reflecting on the experiences that Gunn has gone on to achieve since his loan stint at Carrow Road, Farke believes that the club provided “the perfect platform” for him to take strides forward in his playing career in the last three seasons at Southampton and Stoke.

Gunn’s return comes less than 24 hours after Norwich signed midfielder, Milot Rashica from Bundesliga’s Werder Bremen, as the club gear up for their return to the Premier League.
