Manchester United Women have announced the signing of Norway’s Vilde Boe Risa on a two-year contract on a free transfer.
Boe Risa will initially join the Red Devils on a two-year deal until June 2023 with an option to extend for another year, having last month terminated her contract at Sandviken after making just three appearances for the Norwegian club.
Speaking on her decision to move to Man Utd and play in the Women’s Super League, Boe Risa said: “I’m happy to be here, at such a big club that I have grown up supporting. Manchester United is huge in Norway so to be able to come here and play for the team now is a dream come true.
“I am really looking forward to playing in the WSL and I want to help the team as much as I can in qualifying for the Champions League.”
Boe Risa also revealed her excitement at meeting her new teammates and seeing fans return to stadiums, commenting: “I’m also excited to get to know my new team-mates and, of course, I hope I can see the fans in the stadium soon too.”
Manchester United Women Football Director, John Murtough added that he is “delighted” to sign Boe Risa and praised her qualities as of the expected standard of an Utd player, as well as reveal his hopes that “she can have a great impact here.”
Singling out Boe Risa’s best qualities, Murtough said: ” She reads the game so well and is a fantastic playmaker with great vision and link-up play.”
Murtough also noted Boe Risa’s European experience in Sweden with Goteborg will be of benefit to the team, saying: “Vilde brings leadership skills from her time in Sweden, along with Champions League experience, which is something the club is striving for.”
Utd however continue to remain without a manager for their Women’s Team ahead of the new 2021-22 season.
