Silverstone Circuit has joined UK Event Research Programme (ERP) and will be allowed to welcome a full capacity crowd for 2021 British Grand Prix.
Having hosted two races behind-closed-doors in 2020 due to Coronavirus, Silverstone will now be permitted a maximum capacity crowd for this year’s British Grand Prix on Sunday 18 July.
Circuit organisers will now enter into discussions with ERP experts and Northamptonshire’s Director of Public Health in relation to ‘specific conditions of entry’ which will enable safe operation of the event and will announce further details to ticket holders in due course.
Managing Director of Silverstone, Stuart Pringle has welcomed the announcement, commenting: “This is something we have all been working towards for months and I cannot wait to welcome a full capacity crowd back to Silverstone this July.”
Pringle also confirmed that many spectators had rolled over their tickets from 2020 but believes that they’re now “well placed to enjoy” the race which forms one of many sporting highlights of the British summer in the UK.
Praise was also handed to Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden and his team at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport for showing “tireless” support in ensuring that fans can attend this year’s race as Lewis Hamilton looks to win his eighth British GP.
F1 President and CEO, Stefano Domenicali has also praised the news as “fantastic” with packed out crowds set to be in attendance, especially as F1 launches a new experimental race weekend format at Silverstone with Qualifying moved to Friday 16 July with a Sprint Race held on Saturday 17 July.
The main race will take place on the Sunday as normal on 18 July with lights out from 3pm BST UK Time.
Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden also spoke of feeling “pleased” to welcome fans back to Silverstone for the British GP and hopes that the event will help continue to “pave the way for everyone to enjoy live sport and culture together safely once more.”
Formula Two, Porsche Supercup and W Series will serve as support series at Silverstone as planned.
