Stephen Kenny Names 27-Man Republic of Ireland Squad For June Friendlies

Stephen Kenny has named four uncapped players as part of a 27-man Republic of Ireland squad for international friendlies against Andorra and Hungary in June.

18 year-old Norwich defender, Andrew Omobamidele has been named in the squad after impressing in nine appearances for the Canaries this season.

St Mirren midfielder, Jamie McGrath has been handed his first senior call-up after enjoying a strong season in which he scored 17 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions, as the Saints enjoyed excellent cup runs to the semi-finals in both Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup.

Shamrock Rovers midfielder, Daniel Mandroiu is another new player named in the squad after netting four goals in 12 appearances, since joining the Hoops earlier this year.

Rotherham midfielder, Chiedozie Ogbene has also been handed a maiden call-up after delivering strong performances, despite failing to find the net in 12 appearances. 

Burton Albion’s Kieron O’Hara and Bournemouth’s Mark Travers have both been snubbed as Darren Randolph returns to the squad.

Sheffield United’s Enda Stevens, Burnley’s Kevin Long and Fulham’s Cyrus Christie all miss out in defence as Lee O’Connor, John Egan and Omobamidele all come in.

Kenny has also rung the changes in midfield as Alan Browne and Jeff Hendrick drop out with Harry Arter, McGrath and Mandroiu all coming into the squad.

Up front, Robbie Brady, Callum O’Dowda and Shane Long all miss out as Adam Idah, Troy Parrott plus Ogbene all get the nod.

Republic of Ireland will play Andorra on Thursday 3 June June on neutral territory in Barcelona, Spain, before visiting Hungary in Budapest on Tuesday 8 June in their final friendly before the summer break, having failed to qualify for Euro 2020.
