Ten Premier League stars have been named in Spain’s squad for Euro 2020 as Luis Enrique snubs all Spanish players of Real Madrid.
Manchester United’s David De Gea headlines the goalkeeper selection where he is joined by Brighton’s Robert Sanchez and Unai Simon of Athletic Bilbao.
Manchester City duo of Eric Garcia and Aymeric Laporte are amongst four Premier League defenders selected by Enrique alongside Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta and Diego Llorente of Leeds United.
Rodri has been called up for midfield after impressing this season for Man City as Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara is also selected, whilst other midfield options include Barcelona duo of Pedri and Sergio Busquets.
Up front, Ferran Torres and Adama Traore are selected after enjoying strong seasons at Man City and Wolves respectively, with Juventus’ Alvaro Morata and Villarreal’s Gerard Moreno amongst other selected players.
This means that none of Real Madrid’s seven Spanish players have been called up in a shock snub, resulting in stars like Sergio Ramos, Isco and Marco Asensio missing out.
Spain will play Portugal and Lithuania in warm-up friendlies on 4 and 8 June before kicking off their Group E campaign at Euros against Sweden on Monday 14 June (8pm UK Time) in Seville, where they will play all three of their group games.
