Bristol City Name Nigel Pearson as New Permanent Manager

Bristol City have named Nigel Pearson as their new permanent manager on a three-year contract until Summer 2024.

Pearson initially joined the Robins in February on a short-term deal until the end of this season, replacing Dean Holden as manager after the latter’s dismissal following a run of three wins in 14 Sky Bet Championship matches.

Speaking on how “delighted he is to be extend his deal on a permanent contract, Pearson said; This is such a fantastic opportunity at a sound football club that has so much more potential.”

Pearson also praised club owner, Stephen Lansdown for showing “long-term vision” for not just the club but local sport across Bristol, and is “very grateful” to be placed at the forefront of their plans.

Iterating that guiding the Robins into the Premier League is his main ambition, Pearson is wary of the task ahead, adding; “It’s going to be a tough journey and we’ll need the right people on board to achieve it but I am excited about the possibilities ahead.”

Bristol City Chairman, Jon Lansdown is pleased to have secured “certainty” moving forward in the managerial role, which Pearson provides with ‘”leadership” whilst allowing the club to progress forward in their bid to reach England’s top flight.

On the club’s plans and elements needed to push forward, Lansdown said; “We have a shared vision and everything is in place facility-wise to start pushing forward.

“Now it’s about having the right people, with the right leadership, doing the right things and there is nothing standing in the way.”

Bristol City currently sit 18th with just two matches left of this season as the club look to end an eight-match winless run as they visit Millwall on Saturday before hosting Brentford in their final match of the campaign on Saturday 8 May.
